Kathleen
Laverne Jack, 92, entered into her rest on Saturday, April 29, 2006
after a lengthy illness. Kathleen was born July 24, 1913 to Arthur and
Ola Swann of Mitchiville, TN. The family moved to Texas when Kathleen
was two years old. She grew up in Liberty County and graduated from
Hull-Daisetta High School. Kathleen attended Texas State College for
Women, then finished her B.S. degree from the University of Houston
with graduate work toward a Master’s degree.
Kathleen taught elementary school in
Liberty and Hardin Counties. She married Lt. Clarence E. Jack, on
October 4, 1941. During World War II, Clarence was promoted to Captain
and later Lt. Colonel, serving the army as a government liaison
coordinating the needs of displaced persons in France and Germany
including survivors of two concentration camps. After the war,
Clarence and Kathleen settled in Liberty, Texas. In 1948, their son,
Karl was born.
Kathleen attended First United
Methodist Church of Liberty, taught Sunday School, belonged to the
Guild, UMW and MEC. Kathleen owned a successful antique shop in
Liberty, stocked from their travels around the United States on
vacations. She loved to travel, read, fish in Rockport, and paint.
Clarence and Kathleen moved to
Kerrville in 1972 when Clarence retired from Texaco. They joined Hunt
United Methodist Church and were active at the Dietert Senior Center.
Clarence Jack preceded Kathleen in
death in 1997. They were married 55 years. She is survived by Karl
Stephen Jack, son and daughter-in-law Ann Jack of Kerrville,
granddaughter Laura Kathleen Jack, grandson Lee Michael Jack both
attending Angelo State University, San Angelo and Benjamin Karl Jack
of San Antonio. She loved her family very much. Her family celebrates
that she is reunited with Clarence at last.
Burial will take place on Friday, May
5 at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio. Memorial service for
Kathleen will be Saturday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Grimes Funeral
Chapel in Kerrville presided by the Rev. Sam Hunnicutt of Hunt United
Methodist Church.
