Richard Bloom, 90, of Center Point passed away on August 19, 2026, in Kerrville. Born Paul Richard Bloom, he was born in Nowata, Oklahoma to Amos and Ruth (Rielley) Bloom on December 5, 1935. He married Carol Sue Harshman on May 29, 1954, in Nowata.
A decorated football player at Nowata High School, Richard went on to Oklahoma State University, receiving a B.S. in Animal Husbandry in May 1958. Afterwards, he started a lifelong career as a rancher and was a member of the Brangus Breeders Association, a career that took him from Oklahoma to Texas. In Center Point, he was president of the school board where he helped lead the efforts to get the new high school built in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Ken and sister Marjorie Leigh.
Survivors include his wife Carol, sisters Loretta Vives and Marilyn Hopper and brother Ron; his children, Paul Bloom (Debbie) of Ingram, Susan Bloom (Marion) of Kerrville, and Charles Bloom (Debbie) of Kerrville; grandchildren Aimee Strey (John) of Leander, Audree Casanova (Steve) of San Antonio, Damon Bloom (Kathryn) of Lake Jackson, Ashley Hightower (Ransom) of Ingram, Aubrey Bloom (Jen) of College Station, Vicki Bloom of Kerrville, and Taylor Bloom of Kerrville; and great-grandchildren Ian Strey, Natilee Strey, Jace Wise, Maddox Bloom, Charlotte Hightower, and Brynn, Wayne, Caroline, and Kennedy Bloom.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with the Rosary preceding the Mass at 9:30 AM.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Peterson Hospice.
