Aurora "Dora" Arredondo Barron was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 10, 1923, to Pablo and Cruz Arredondo. She passed away peacefully at the age of 103 on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Cruz Arredondo, her beloved husband, Richard, foster son Joe Montanez, sisters Henrietta Alcorta, Esther Ortiz, Connie Williams, and brother Raul Arredondo.

Richard and Dora were married in Kerrville, Texas, on May 30, 1955. Although they did not have children of their own, Richard and Dora opened their home and hearts to a young boy whom they fostered for several years.

During her teenage years, Dora worked at the Swift Meat Company in San Antonio to help supplement her family's income.

After moving to Kerrville, Dora worked for approximately 55 years as a household manager and caregiver, a reflection of the generous and nurturing spirit that those who knew her will always remember.

In her later years, Dora enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. She visited Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, and many other places, creating memories along the way.

Dora's zest for life could be seen in the things she loved most: cooking comfort food, dancing, shopping, and enjoying her favorite novelas— Spanish-language soap operas that were a regular part of her evenings.

Family and friends will also remember Dora for her impeccable sense of style. She was always beautifully dressed and immaculately accessorized, with a flair that could easily have earned her a cover feature in Vogue.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include more than 100 nieces and nephews, including Linda Cantu (Saul), Angie Borja Montenegro (Arturo), Gilbert Gauna (Toney), Rachel Garcia, Mary Pacheco (Joe), Helen Ayala (Richard), Chris Valero (Alfred), Cindy Delgadillo (Gino), Delia Garza, Lisa Trevino (Michael), Paul Arredondo (Lanette), Robert Arredondo, Charles Arredondo (Cindy), and Carol Rios (Jimmie).

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Aunt Dora, you will forever live in our hearts.

Our family will always be grateful for the love and care she showed my father, Joe Montanez, whom she welcomed as her foster son. That kindness and place in her heart will never be forgotten. "Dearest Dora: it was a pleasure running into you. I grew up across the street from your Mom’s house. The house with the immaculate green grass. I watched Richard drop you off for your visits with Doña Arredondo. You always wearing beautiful dresses with a flair. You are now reunited with all gone before you. You will sit in the front of the house catching up on everything going on. Fly high and give that dress one more flair. And I pray you see my Mom. 🕊️🙏🌹❤️"
