Joseph Hugh Shafer, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in San Benito, Texas to Della Ruth McIntosh Shafer and Joseph Hugh Shafer, Sr. on August 14, 1934.

Joe married Alice Jane Garrett (AJ) in Corpus Christi, Texas, November 11, 1972 in Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal and is a member of St. Peter's in Kerrville. Joe graduated from San Benito High School and was a veteran of the Army. He received a BS degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&I - now Texas A&M Kingsville and a Master's in Business was earned from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Joe began his career as an engineer in substation design with Central Power and Light Company in Corpus Christi (later Central and Southwest Corporation). He worked in fuel procurement until his retirement.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and many loving aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Alice Jane Garrett Shafer; sister, Ruth Jane Shafer Stock (Richard Dennis); niece, Patricia Leigh Pia (Michael David); nephews, Stephen Richard Stock (Inez) and Brian Patrick Stock (Casey).

Joe felt blessed to be born into a close-knit loving family and enjoyed their many get togethers. He enjoyed wildlife, birding, fishing, hunting, and sailing. He especially enjoyed his sailboat (The Epoxy Belle). He and AJ also loved the Hill Country and many happy times spent with friends and family in their home they dubbed "The Shafer Shambles" in Mountain Home.

According to Joe's wishes there will be no formal services.

Joe could be described only as a truly good and loving man of great integrity. He will be missed by all who knew him.
