Bobby ''Bob'' Lynn Bolton, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Kerrville, Texas on August 29, 2025, at the age of 90, after a long battle with dementia. Survived by Jean Ann Bolton, wife of 67 years, Bob was a resident of Kerrville, Texas.
Born on December 12, 1934, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, Bob was the ninth child of William Bolton and Beulah (Lawson) Bolton. As a five year old, Bob was the football mascot for the local high school where his brothers played. His senior year of high school (1951) he served as the president of his class and the co-captain of the Grandfield High School football team.
Bob played football on scholarship at Eastern Oklahoma A&M before finishing his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State A&M in Stillwater. He served in the 45th Air National Guard while in Stillwater and then in the Army Reserves in Albuquerque from 1958-1963.
He married Jean Ann Montgomery on August 29, 1958, in Grandfield. They lived in New Mexico, Illinois, West Virginia, and Texas while raising their four children. In 2000 they retired to Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where he served as the watermaster of their mountain neighborhood. After enjoying the mountain climate for 21 years, he and Jean moved to Kerrville in 2021 to be nearer to family.
Bob loved his family, board games, Blue Bell butter pecan ice cream, restoring his 1961 MG, meeting his neighbors (every chance he got), giving bubble gum to kids at church, good tools, feeding the birds, and tinkering. His life's rhythm, however, always revolved around loving and serving his church family wherever he and his family lived. Known for his patience and wisdom, he served 22 years as an elder for the Alvin Church of Christ and 20 years at the Cloudcroft Church of Christ. Bob was passionate about sharing the gospel with others.. He was a preacher and teacher in prison ministry, spending many Sunday afternoons leading church services and teaching Bible classes to prisoners in the Texas prison system. Even into his eighties he served on several mission trips to Ghana, Kenya, Mexico, and Dominica.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Kevin (Nancie) of Austin, Mylinda (Del) Wilson of Conroe, Scott (Shelly) of Kerrville, and Stephanie Preston of Lawrence, KS; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his younger sister, Glenda Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Beulah Bolton; his older brothers and sisters: Hazel, Bill Jr., Christine, Oleta, J.L., and Floyd; and son-in-law Jake Preston.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2 PM on October 25th at Riverside Church of Christ in Kerrville, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Camp Blue Haven, Attn: Mission Fund, P.O. Box 417, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
