Barry attended Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, where he was well known and well liked. He enjoyed school, played the saxophone in a jazz band, and remained connected to many friends throughout his life. He later graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas (now Texas A&M University-Commerce), and Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. While in college, Barry was very active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity and remained deeply involved throughout his life. He was a lifelong Sig who valued brotherhood, loyalty, and friendship.
Barry began his professional career as a special education teacher, advocate, and leader. Later, he transitioned into the gas industry, working for Texgas and subsequently Union Industrial Gas in Houston and Pearland. There, he held positions in sales and ultimately served as President of the Propane Division. During his career in the gas industry, he also served on several state boards for the Texas Railroad Commission.
A devoted and hands-on father, Barry was especially proud of coaching Little League and Pony League baseball. He also served as a board member of Bayside Little League in Seabrook, Texas, and was deeply involved with children and youth at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church. He additionally served on several community committees in Seabrook.
Barry lived life fully. He loved Western movies, watching Jeopardy and The Price is Right, spending time on his acreage outside of Kerrville, and was rarely without a loyal dog by his side. Above all else, he loved his family and friends and stayed closely connected to them throughout his life.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Joseph Raymond Whitfill, and his brother, Gary Ray Whitfill.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Wooten Whitfill; sons, Matthew Whitfill and Clay Whitfill; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Otero Whitfill; grandchildren, Raegan Whitfill and Santiago Otero; daughter, Bethany Whitfill; sisters, Nancy Melton (Charlie Melton) and Becky Whitfill; brother-in-law, Jay Wooten (Christie Wooten); and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Barry made his mark with everyone he met. He was a one of a kind. Even my grandsons think his “Last of the Wild Longhorns” is the best song ever.
You are missed by all. Well done Bro
