It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our matriarch Joyce Cox on December 27, 2025.
Joyce was born on July 17, 1931, in Chicago, IL to Eugene and Lena Prokopovich. She attended school in Chicago, IL.
Joyce and a girlfriend headed to San Francisco where she worked as a katometer. While there, a handsome, blue-eyed sailor caught her eye.
She returned home to Chicago, where she married Wiley Cox on August 30, 1952. They started their married life living in an apartment above a barber shop. Soon after they started their family of four sons and a daughter, living next door to her parents' home in Villa Park, IL.
In 1968, the family moved to Dallas, TX where Wiley started a business with two partners.
Joyce was strong woman and the heart of her home, nurturing her family through the Lord. She loved cooking, gardening and traveling.
Retirement took Joyce and Wiley to Kerrville, TX, where they spent the remainder of their years.
Joyce and Wiley were married for 72 years, Wiley passing away just 10 months before her.
Joyce is survived by her four sons and daughter, Gary Cox (Jana), Roger Cox (Mary Lou), David Cox, Steve Cox (Missy), Judy Cox Harper (Larry); grandchildren, Joshua Clapp, Chris Cox, Charlie Cox (Brittany), Patrick Cox, Austin (Carrie), Ryan Cox, Ryan Spencer, Kevin Harper, Sam (Ryan) Harper, Katie Dreiss (Bobby), Emma Cox; also 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 7, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville, TX.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Austin, Kevin, Sam, Chris, Charlie and Ryan.
Joyce will always be remembered as loving mother who fed all who gathered at her table. She was mother to many. We are so very thankful for her.
The family wishes to extend our sincerest thanks and love to Lena Santana, who cared for Joyce with her whole heart.
