Jay was born on November 8, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Alan and Patricia Truluck Lucke. His family moved to Corpus Christi when Jay was a toddler. He attended St. James Episcopal School, Hamlin Junior High, and Ray High School. After moving to Kerrville more than 20 years ago, Jay found his calling as an electrician.
Jay had a gift for turning customers into lifelong friends. Whether at work or at the grocery store, he could strike up a conversation with his warm smile and a genuine, ''How are you?'' always leaving them with a true sense of feeling known and valued. Many times he offered his services for free, simply saying, ''It was nothing.'' Jay truly knew no strangers and helping others is who he was.
When Jay married Debra, he married into an instant family. He embraced Debra's four adult children and five grandchildren as his own, often saying proudly, ''This is my family.'' And they are…completely and forever.
Jay was the most loving husband and best friend to his wife, and the best grandpa to their grandchildren. His greatest joy was the simple moments, sitting on the couch next to Debra, holding hands, and watching a ''good movie.'' He loved Sunday NASCAR with jalapeno poppers, going to the movies and concerts, playing his video games, and spending time with family and friends. Next to the simple moments shared with his wife, another favorite pastime was building forts with his Chipmunk, (aka Indie). Every moment was spent creating the best memories, filled with laughter and love.
Jay is survived by his wife, Debra Heinemann Lucke; his son, Wiley Lucke; his parents, Alan and Patricia Truluck Lucke; four adult children through marriage, Blakely and Gage (Ariel) Heinemann, Abygail and Gene Garza; and five grandchildren through marriage, Alianna, Mya, Marilyn, Edward and Indie. He is also survived by his sisters; Erin Lucke, Heather Lucke Schneider (Eric), and Jeanne Lucke; and his nephews, Andrew, Lawson and Nathan Schneider, Troy Knuth and Benjamin Lucke.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jay's Memorial Service on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas, The Rev. John Onstott, officiant.
We will miss you, Jay Lucke.

We are so sorry for your loss. We will miss Jay’s wonderful sense of humor more than words can say. He had a special way of bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him. Debra, Jay loved you deeply—never hesitating to share that love with pride. He will always be remembered for the joy, warmth, and devotion he gave so freely. Please know your family is in our thoughts during this difficult time.

There isn’t much I can say about Jay that anybody who knew him doesn’t already know. He was loving, especially to my sister Debra and for that I am eternally grateful, he was kind, helpful in any way he could be. He would give the shirt of his back if someone needed it. I know you are in your Heavenly Home now. You will be truly, deeply missed. Salt Water Grill will not be the same without you. Hugs to my mom and dad for me. We all will take care of Debbie. Until we meet again. Like the old hymn says, “when I finally make my entrance to that city, look for me for I will be there too “. Love you brother in law, always and forever.
