Captolia Rose Johnson, a devoted Christian, beloved wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and faithful ranch woman, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior at the age of 91 on March 30, 2026.
''Cappy,'' as most people knew her, and affectionately known as ''Tita'' by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born to Will and Kathryn Brown on August 10, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas.
She married the love of her life, Rex Hugh Johnson of Menard, Texas, on August 2, 1957 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rocksprings, Texas.
Cappy joined her husband at Mr. T.C. Hall's ranch on the Divide (Mountain Home, Texas) and they eventually moved back to her home place in 1959.
She was raised with a deep-rooted faith that would guide her every step. From an early age, she learned the value of hard work, tending to land, animals, and family with a steady hand and a grateful heart. The ranch was not just her home - it was her ministry. There, Cappy lived out her calling, nurturing both the soil beneath her feet and the souls entrusted to her care.
She attended Rocksprings High School, Southwest Texas University, Tarleton State University, and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1955. She became a teacher and taught for many years in San Angelo, Texas, Kerrville, Texas, and at Rocksprings Elementary School.
Being a teacher, Cappy was told that teachers do not go to Bandera, Texas, so that is the first place she went! It was there at the Cabaret that she met Rex. They were married three months after meeting and stayed faithfully married for 69 years.
Cappy was involved in the Merry Heart Club, Bridge Club, and the Women's Bible study group. She enjoyed playing cards - bridge, black jack, and poker. She also played the organ and piano at both the Presbyterian Church and the First Methodist Church for approximately 80 years.
Cappy rose with the sun, often beginning her days in prayer, finding peace in scripture and strength in God's promises. Whether tending to livestock, growing hay, preparing meals, or offering a listening ear, she did everything with quiet devotion. Her hands were worn but gentle, her spirit steadfast, and her love boundless.
Her life was a reflection of God's grace, marked by humility, strength, and an unwavering trust in the Lord. She was the kind of woman whose life testified to faith, resilience, and love - woven together like the wide Texas skies she cherished.
To her family, Tita was the cornerstone - a woman of wisdom and grace who led not with words alone, but through a life well-lived. She taught by example what it meant to walk with Christ and to trust God in all seasons. Her prayers carried many through life's storms.
Cappy found joy in the simple blessings - the rustle of the wind through pasture grass, the rhythm of Angora goat hooves on open land, and the gathering of family around her table. In all things, she gave thanks to the Lord, knowing that every good gift came from Him.
Cappy is preceded in death by her father Will Brown and her mother Kathryn Brown. Cappy's father passed away when she was 17, leaving her and her mother to assume all responsibilities of the ranch. She labored riding horses and gathering stock from the pastures.
Upon marrying her true love, Rex Hugh Johnson of London, Texas in 1957, they together kept up with the ranch. The T Brown Ranch, known to others as the Rex Johnson Ranch, is still in operation to this day.
Cappy is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Rex H. Johnson; son William Gerald Johnson and daughter Kathryn Ann Johnson; grandchildren Nathaniel Austin Bissett (Brenna) and their children Olivia Layne and Barrett Austin Rex Bissett of Rocksprings; and Georgia Blaine Kerbow (Zachary) and their children Reverdy Rose and Zella Cole Kerbow of Rocksprings. They will carry her legacy of faith and love forward.
Though her hands now rest, her work is not forgotten. The seeds she planted - in both land and life - will continue to grow for generations to come.
''Well done, good and faithful servant.'' - Matthew 25:23
Her family rejoices in the promise that she is now home, walking in glory, reunited with loved ones, and forever in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A memorial service for Cappy will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Rocksprings where friends and family will gather to honor a life so beautifully lived and so deeply loved. The service will be officiated by Reverend Lewis Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Rocksprings and the Edwards County EMS.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the First Presbyterian Church, the Women's Bible Study group, the Merry Heart Club, her special friend Christella Sifuentes, and all friends, family, and loved ones.
