Claudia Ahrens Wetzel

Claudia Ahrens Wetzel, 88, of Kerrville, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at a local hospital. She was born Claudia Mae Cora Boening October 25, 1934 in Floresville, Texas to George and Olga (Kruse) Boening, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Ruby Boening; and her sister, Betty Lou Faktor.

Claudia graduated from Poth High School and worked briefly for USAA in San Antonio until she married Elo Ahrens on January 31, 1954. They raised three children in Jourdanton, Texas where she also worked for Southwest Federal Land Bank for 26 years and was involved with local church and school activities with her family. She was married for almost 32 years until Elo’s passing in December 1985. In 1998 she married Wilbur “Bill” Wetzel and resided in Kerrville. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home and watching grandkids grow up. They were married for 19 years until Bill’s passing in 2017.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Janice) Ahrens, Dennis (Susan) Ahrens and Steven (GiGi Gastel) Ahrens, all residing in Kerrville; her grandchildren, Allison (Cameron Nobile) Ahrens, Michelle (Patrick) Chaiken, Marshall Ahrens, Mitchell Ahrens, Banks Burrows, Alexis Burrows and Brooks Burrows; and her great-grandchildren, William and Wyatt Chaiken. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Horan; brothers, Rudell Boening, Douglas Boening, Larry Boening; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 PM on September 9, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville, Texas with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Kerrville.
