Sandra Goodall Domingues

Sandra (Sandy) Jean Goodall Domingues, 81, passed away peacefully February 20, 2025. Sandy was born October 4, 1943, the oldest of the four children of Bill and Nita Goodall. Being the oldest, she was responsible for the upbringing of her two sisters and their brother, while their parents worked to support the family. The family traveled and lived in many Texas towns until settling in Kerrville where Sandy entered elementary school.

In 1962, she graduated from Tivy High School and moved to Austin, Texas. She earned a business school degree and worked as office personnel for several companies. Her childhood responsibility formed her for the future when she left the Goodall nest.

While in high school, she met the love of her life. From the moment she saw him she knew in her heart that she was going to marry him. Some men are a little slow in receiving messages from girls, but, five years later Sandy was Baptized a Christian and married Charles Domingues. Together they set up housekeeping in Kerrville where their daughter, Christian and son, Chuck were born.

Knowing that they needed to invite Christ into the family they joined Notre Dame Catholic Church, where they became active in a religious life. Over the years they invited several youngsters to live or stay with them that had difficult situations, or were foreign exchange students. One such student, Pat Tinley, for which he and Chuck became best friends. They even introduced themselves as brothers, to newcomers, when we took family vacations, camping trips, water skiing, or snow skiing trips.

Sandy and Charles were involved in several different organizations at Notre Dame, one was Marriage Encounter, where they and other couples like Ron and Gloria, helped couples learn to communicate with each other and invite Jesus into their family. Sandy was asked by the Notre Dame parish priest, to be responsible for overseeing the teaching of Catholicism to students from the first grade to seniors studying for conformation. Along with Patricia (Pat) and Ted, they started adult education for adults desiring to join the Catholic Church. She was quite suited for this responsibility after raising her siblings and her family. After being released of this service she was asked to run for president of the Notre Dame School board, because the principal and other church staff were trying to close the school because of the expense drain on the parish. After being elected president she, Jimmy and other board members fired the principal and forced the school to remain open. Besides her daily bible reading, Sandy always prayed for a sign from God to lead her through any situation to make sure she was doing God’s will and not just human intuition or desire. Sandy never held back expressing her opinion whether she agreed to the situation or was in opposition to the situation, which also meant you better not be cussing or belittling anyone or she would not hold back from expressing her opinion.

In the mid-90s, she again consulted Jesus asking for his strength and help to encourage, help and guide her and her husband through the years of formation, and concluded with Charles being ordained a Catholic Deacon.

The following years, Sandy was quite active giving retreats, particularly the ACTS retreat, presiding over adult Bible study classes with her lifelong friend Patricia (Pat), being president of the Daughters of Notre Dame, and in her spare time taking in our granddaughter, Kimberly, who needed her attention and raising her until she left the nest for college. Being a mother, she never stopped being concerned about her children, especially Kimberly. Fr. (Bishop) Mike requested the Pope give Sandy an achievement award for her service, of which she was quite delighted to have received, which the certificate hangs on the wall beside her bed.

Over the years, the family took trips, but the most memorable trip was when she and Charles went to the Holy Land. The thrill of going to Bethlehem, Jerusalem, walking in the Jordan River, renewing their wedding vows at Cana and especially sitting in the room where Jesus and the Apostles celebrated the Last Supper and listing to Fr. John, a Franciscan Priest, singing "in this very room," was a once in a lifetime experience.

The latest and most wonderful experience for Sandy was holding her great-granddaughter, Allyson Layne. Sandy and Ally played like two little kids for three years. Sandy tried to set aside her health situation, despite her doctor saying to her, "do you know how old you are?"

Sandy was always grateful to Molly, (her adopted daughter), Chuck’s wife, for her expertise in being a registered nurse to help her through her health situation. And to Molly’s son William, who helped keep all the mechanical and electronics equipment on the ranch functioning properly.

Last Wednesday the 19th, Sandy fell for the last time, but into the arms of her best friend Jesus Christ.

The family found her rosary and her Bible open to the readings she had read that morning. At the top of the page in 1 John 4: "God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."

The celebration of Sandy’s life is Tuesday, February 25th, 10 AM, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Bishop Mike Boulette presiding.

What is the future: Each day when the family looks out the back of their homes and are able to watch the deer, turkeys, squirrels, and hummingbirds enjoying themselves and the ducks swimming in the pond, Sandy, along with our stillborn first child, Jefferson Joseph, and her lifelong friend Jesus will be with us.
