Thomas Patrick Cagle
5/6/1940 - 4/11/2025
Thomas Patrick “Pat” Cagle, beloved husband, favorite father, loyal brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Kerrville, Texas on April 11, 2025, having lived an exceptional life.
Pat was born on May 6, 1940, in Houston, Texas to Myrtle Imber Cagle and Harry Eugene Cagle. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1958, where he was a multi-year letterman in football and basketball. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member and President of Kappa Sigma fraternity and made lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply. During his sophomore year, he asked Acia Elliott for a date and that was the beginning of their love story. Upon graduation in 1962, Pat and Acia married and settled back in Houston, a city they would call home for the next 50 years, eventually making Kerrville their permanent home for over a decade.
In 1965, Pat, along with his father and brother Harry, created Cagle Construction Company and became a major contractor in Houston, TX. Over the next three decades Cagle Construction Company was involved in hundreds of major flood control, underground utility, and paving projects across Harris County and surrounding counties. Pat became well known as a respected leader in the Houston area by many of his peers in his field.
In 1979, Pat was one of fourteen avid fishermen who created the Gulf Coastal Conservation Association, now known as the Coastal Conservation Association. He was a passionate volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he served as chairman of the Steer Auction Committee and was a Lifetime Vice President. Pat was also a proud member of the Tejas Vaqueros.
Pat went full speed at everything he did! He loved hunting in South Texas, fishing in Port O’Connor, roping steers, playing golf at Lakeside Country Club, and rooting for his Texas Longhorns (even though he had the Aggie War Hymn as the ringtone on his phone). He enjoyed spending quality time laughing with his family and friends, and he had a deep faith in God.
He was a humble, kind, and generous man who would give anyone the shirt off his back, or on several real-life occasions, his favorite cowboy hat off his head! Pat’s friends described him as larger than life, a legend, life of the party, one of a kind, and a dear friend, but to his adoring grandchildren, he was simply known as “Cagey”.
Cagey has left us with a lifetime of memories, countless stories, and endless jokes, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Pat is preceded in death by his bride, Acia Elliott Cagle, his parents, and all of his siblings, Harry, Bob, Judy, and Paul. He is survived by his son Thomas Patrick “Tom” Cagle, Jr. and wife Nicole of Austin, son Kevin Eugene Cagle and wife Christine of Houston, daughter Acia Cagle Moody and husband Edward of Austin, and grandchildren Sara Cagle, Cody Cagle, Ellie Cagle, Eli Moody, and Ryder Moody.
A celebration of life will be held on May 10th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church located at 320 St. Peter Street in Kerrville, Texas.
The family would like to recognize his long-time caregivers Debra, Lyza, and Shannon for the compassionate care given to Pat in his final years and to whom we love and consider as family. We also would like to thank Alamo Hospice, especially Tina and Larry, for their knowledgeable care, prayers, and support.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in honor of Pat Cagle be made to Independent Identity, a non-profit day program center for adults with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities.
