Amelia Rowena Chambers
1/27/1936 - 7/28/2025

Amelia Rowena “Maw” Chambers, surrounded by her family, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2025. She was eighty-nine years old.

Born January 27, 1936, to parents Walter and Rilla Richburg of Canutillo, TX. Rowena spent most of her childhood on their family land in Trent, TX, creating memories with her sisters and setting the foundation for an incredible life. After graduating from Trent High School, Rowena attended Texas Tech University. She worked for Rising Star ISD and Comfort ISD as Business Manager until her retirement in 1996, at which time she moved to Lewisville, TX and worked for BRINKS Home Security before returning to the Hill Country and moving to Kerrville in 2001. During her time with Comfort ISD, from 1991 - 1993, Rowena served on the Texas Association of School Business Officials Board of Directors. As a member of Kerrville Bible Church for 24 years, Rowena was a staunch believer in Christ’s redeeming love and the Lord’s sovereignty in our lives, taking to heart John 14:1-3 and its direction to trust that Christ has gone ahead of all who believe in Him to prepare rooms in our eternal dwelling place. She was an avid traveler and golfer, taking every opportunity to explore the world. Later in life, she spent her days devouring spy and espionage audiobooks and was especially partial to authors Lee Child, Michael Connelly, and David Baldacci. Anyone dropping in to visit could expect the latest golf or tennis rounds or an episode of Beat Bobby Flay to be playing in the background. She kept up with the goings on of all of her favorite players’ lives, and she was especially pleased when Bobby was beaten at his own game. Maw is affectionately remembered as offering honest, sage advice and was viewed as a familial cornerstone to those closest to her.

Rowena is preceded in death by both of her parents; sister, Jean and husband Elbert Love; identical twin sister, Morene and husband Corky Stribling; daughter, Taronna and husband Jeff Sewalt; son-in-law, Russell Davis; and nephews, John Love and Tully Stribling.

She is survived by her sister, Robbie Rutherford (Jimmy) of Bryan; daughters, Doddie Davis of Abilene and Taby Durr (Glenn) of San Antonio; son, Thad Chambers (Valerie) of Kerrville; grandchildren, Judd Sewalt (Martha) of Weatherford, JeTonna Gilliam (Ky) of Brownwood, Candise Davis of Abilene, Dustin Durr (Taylor) of Cypress, Hannah Chambers of College Station, and Molly Pearson (David) of Kerrville; and 7 great-grandchildren.

“Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.” ~ Maw

A service honoring Rowena’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at Kerrville Bible Church with a private reception for family to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rowena’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
