Peggy Sue Hatfield

Peggy "Sue" Hatfield, 88, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2026.
Born in Winnfield, Louisiana, on October 17, 1937, she was the daughter of George Edwin Wallace and Cecil (Jordan) Wallace. She was a woman who filled her life with creativity and who found genuine satisfaction in making things grow, making things beautiful, and looking after those who needed it.
Sue and her husband, Fred, spent 50 years in Houston, Texas, where they owned and operated Sue & Fred’s Rock Shop. Sue designed jewelry for the shop, work that suited her well and reflected the careful attention she brought to her craft.
In 2003, she and Fred settled in Kerrville, Texas, where she spent the last 23 years of her life. Sue was a lifelong artist and won many awards for her work. She specialized in painting nature scenes in oil and watercolor and carving wood sculptures of birds and wildlife. She was also an avid gardener whose green thumb and plant knowledge consistently impressed those around her. Family and friends regularly sought out her advice, and she was always willing to share what she knew.
Sue also had a well-known soft spot for stray cats. She took it upon herself to care for them over the years, and their company brought her much joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Cecile Wallace, and brother, Tim Wallace.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Fred Hatfield of Kerrville, TX; brother, Ted Wallace of Houston, TX; sister, Edwina Wallace Wolf of Lago Vista, TX; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a wide circle of friends and neighbors whose lives she touched.
Services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with burial following at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local pet shelter.
