Marion A. Dickey, of Bandera, Texas passed on April 18, 2015 at her home in Bandera after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Gearld and Ruth Callender on June 3, 1948. She married Ronald Dickey on May 24, 1968at the familys church in Brookhaven.\r\n\r\nShe attended secondary school in Brookhaven. Marion had three years of undergraduate studies in Mathematics at the University of Mississippi before returning to college to graduate from Athens State University in 2000.She worked as a high school math teacher for the Anne Arundel County (Maryland) public school system for several years. She was an Army wife for 20 years, moving the family between Panama, Georgia, North Carolina, California, Colorado, and the Netherlands before residing in North Alabama for 12 years, Maryland for 14 years and finally Bandera for the last year of her life. Each assignment brought new adventures and new opportunities to improve the community through work with the school system, Cub Scouts and volunteering with the American Red Cross. Each organization recognized her service to the youth of the communities, with one highlight being a Certificate of Appreciation from the NATO/SHAPE Red Cross Manager.\r\n\r\nFirst in Marions heart regardless of the homes location was her faith in God and countless hours of teaching Vacation Bible School and youth Sunday School classes. Many young men and women received solid life guidance through her faithful service on Sundays, Wednesdays, and summer camps.\r\n\r\nMarion is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. GearldCallender, a brother, Sherwin Callender, and an infant child, Jenny Michelle Dickey.\r\n\r\nMarion is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronald; daughter Melissa Wilson and her husband Rev. James Wilson; a son Brian Dickey; a sister Toni Allen and her husband Phillip Allen; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Grimes Funeral Home in Bandera.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Bandera with Rev. Dave Collett officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, April 27, 2015.\r\n\r\nPallbearers will be Brian Dickey, Gary Dickey, James Wilson, Alec Denbo, Richard Honea, and Rodney Sosa.\r\n\r\nMemorials in lieu of flowers may be sent to First Baptist Church of Bandera (1302 Pecan Street, Bandera, TX 78003). Marions family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Charles McCurly, the family doctor; the doctors and nurses of Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, Methodist Hospital and the START Center; and especially Amy and Lori with River City Hospice for the countless kindnesses and sincere sympathy extended by each. But, the warmest thoughts go out to the many friends and neighbors of Bridlegate Ranch and friends and members of First Baptist Church of Bandera, the Glen Burnie Baptist Church, the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Independence, Mississippi, and the Cavalry Chapel at Ft.
