Martin Scott Stehling was a Texas boy through and through. Born February 2, 1945 to Martin Stehling and Cornelia Fawcett Stehling in Kerrville, Texas, Scott grew up in the Hill Country and enjoyed all that the area has to offer. He attended Tivy High School where he mastered the debate team and wowed the ladies, eventually marrying his high school sweetheart, Julia Wendel Stehling. Scott was hero and big brother to James Edward Stehling. Jim is likely Scotts biggest fan in life and this brotherly love and admiration shone brightly not only throughout their lives, but most especially in Scotts final days as Jim advocated for his big brother with as much love and compassion as anyone on Gods green earth could ever hope for. While Scotts illness set on suddenly, Jim was with him every day fighting for and with Scott through every appointment, exam, procedure, and medical decision that presented itself. With remarkable courage, Scott made the choice to pursue hospice at the time he felt best and Jim showed equal if not greater courage in accepting his brothers decision. In the final days, I dont know that I have witnessed in person such true fraternal love and as Scotts daughter, it was a gift and a blessing to see such altruistic devotion from one person to another. \r\n \r\nScott graduated from the University of Texas in 1967, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and the University of Texas School of Law in 1970. He owned his own private law practice in the heart of downtown Kerrville and continued to work just as he claimed he would: until his dying day. Scott served as the Hearings Examiner for the Texas Railroad Commission, Associate Editor of The Texas Law Review, Board Member for the Peterson Regional Health Care Center Foundation, Board Member for Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, Board Member for the Hill Country Youth Ranch, and President of the Kerr County Bar Association. Scott particularly loved being part of the Faculty for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) where he traveled the country and taught other lawyers the art of deposition and trial skills.\r\n \r\nScott is survived by me: Blake Stehling Feuge and my daughter Kennedy Kate James Feuge. Lisa Stehling is Jims eternal bride who was by his side through all of Scotts illness. Scotts step daughters and their families are Ingrid Schumacher, her daughter Mae Gremillion and Heather and Cullen Burgess along with their three sons: Kai, Koen and Kody. \r\n \r\nScott was able to attend his extended familys Thanksgiving this year where 51 of his loved ones were in attendance. \r\n \r\nScott will be remembered for his shrewdness in practicing law, keen sense of humor, sharp wit, enthusiasm in story telling, passion for traveling, and great capacity to love.
