Robert Bernard Berryman, 92, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on January 7, 2021 in Kerrville. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late PR and Maggie Berryman on August 8, 1928. \r\n\r\nHe attended Decatur Boys High and Young Harris College. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and Air Force. He spent the better part of his life in Atlanta where he owned Berrymans Sport Center, The Gun Room and The Antique Armory. He later moved to Kerrville, Texas where he settled and lived the rest of his life. His love for antique guns eventually took him into an amazing career of being an antique gun collector and an expert in his field. A highly sought after antique arms appraiser and avid collector was his hobby. He always said he never worked a day in his life because it was a love and not a job. After the purchase of the Locke Collection (the best assembly of antique American firearms ever assembled) in the early 70s, he was thrust into becoming one of the leading authorities and appraiser of antique firearms in the United States. He compiled a book called the Locke Collection and was a contributor to a book he compiled with his dear friend, the late Charles Schreiner III called A Pictoral History of the Texas Ranger. He was a 59 year member of the American Society of Arms Collectors, and over 50 year member of the Texas Gun Collectors Association (where he served as President in 1990 and 1991). He was also a long time member of the Colt Collectors Association, National Rifle Association and the Antique Bowie Knife Association. He was a past Board member of the Former Texas Ranger Foundation. \r\n\r\nSurvivors include wife Dorothy Rains Berryman, his daughters Piper Berryman Worthington (Bob), Anita Berryman Miles (Les); grandchildren Webb Worthington (Georgia), Maggie Lawrence (Craig), Will Worthington (Carly), Rob Miles (Emily), Piper Miles and Annie Stewart Miles; great-grandchildren Banks Lawrence, Briggs Lawrence, Sims Lawrence and Teddy Worthington. \r\n\r\nDue to Covid, there will be a private ceremony with family only. \r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to the Former Texas Ranger Foundation or American Society of Arms Collectors Foundation.

"We knew Bob Berryman from Dunwoody, Georgia. He was our next-door neighbor. Very kind man who took a true liking to our son Matthew who at the time might’ve been seven or eight years old. He gifted Matthew three antique rifles which we still have in our possession. I remember one of His daughters was a flight attendant, who arranged for us to fly first class down to the islands. Great memories of Bob as a kind and gentle man. Our condolences on his loss."

"Good afternoon. We were so sad to learn that Bob passed away. We are so sorry for your loss. We knew Bob through James’ grandparents, Logan and Renza Sewell, from Vidalia, Louisiana. Bob was a kind person. He helped see us through some tough times after Logan and Renza passed in 2008 and 2009, respectively. We have often thought of Bob and Dorothy over the years. We kept in touch for a while, but realized during our last phone call with him that he wasn’t really up for talking on the phone. He was a wonderful man, and though we realize that it’s been a year since he passed, we hope that you will accept our sincere condolences and heartfelt prayers for your family’s comfort.
