Sista Davila, 95, of Kerrville, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022 at her home in Kerrville. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a native born and raised in Kerrville to Julian and Antonia Lopez. She was married 58 years to her late husband, Gilbert Davila Sr.

She attended Kerrville public schools. She retired from James Avery Craftsman. She was a member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church and had a strong faith and was very dedicated to her Lord and Blessed Mother. She was blessed to live, see and be a part of Five Generations like her Mother.

Sista was known as Chita to her brothers and friends, she was AMA to all her family. She had what some called a revolving door, a tradition which was started in 1990 by her brothers shortly after their Mother passed away. Every day, that revolving door was constantly entered by many family and friends whom were always welcomed and never turned away to come in and join her for a little Cafecito, or “peche” with pan dulce, empanadas, tamales or galletitas, a sign of breaking bread and share in past times, life’s history, past, present and current events, but most of all, gatherings were passed in laughter. The Cafecito brewed come rain or shine and even during Covid, her door had never closed.

Sista, Chita, Ama, you were loved by all and will be missed with our floresitas and tarjetitas rest in peace.

She was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert Davila Sr.; parents, Julian and Antonia Lopez; and brothers, Julian Lopez Jr., Alfredo, Felipe, Louis, Lorenzo and Adolfo; and a great-grandson, Josh DeLoach.

She is survived by her brothers, Ignacio Lopez, Ramon Lopez, and Tony (Nell) Lopez, all of Kerrville; daughter, Petra Elisa Calderon and her children, Armando, Oscar, Olivia, Homero, Yolanda, Katrina and Pete; daughter, Ernestina Thompson and her children, Julie and David; daughter, Antonia (Steven) San Miguel, and her children, Margie, Lisa, Steve and Michael; son, Joe Davila and his children, Delia and Joey; son, Gilbert Davila Jr., (Barbara) and their son, Gilbert Davila III; son, Rito Davila (Dora) and sons, Jason and Christopher; son, Hector Davila and his son, Matthew. She had 32 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be held at 6 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Mass will be at 9 AM, Friday, September 2, 2022 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Tony Vilano as celebrant. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Armando Calderon, David Thompson, Michael San Miguel, Joe Davila Jr., Gilbert Davila III, Christopher Davila, Matthew Davila and Pete Calderon.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Alamo Hospice, Tina Gross and Erelia Cantu.
