In Loving Memory
"Was so sorry to hear about Marie. When I was a young girl she and Ricky lived in our garage apartment while he was in school. I considered her a dear friend but had lost contact with her. I have many good memories! My condolences to Paul and Brook.

"Marie Stone Watson was my father’s younger sister, by 4 years. Growing up partly in Houston and partly on a ranch near Carrizo Springs, they were quickly dubbed Sonny and Sissy, and it stuck. To us she was always “Aunt Sissy.” I admired her sense of style and her clothes savvy – she was invariably impeccably turned out, even at 92, and always fiercely proud of her sons, Paul and Brook, her west Texas family and her four generations of Texas heritage. She impressed upon us the dignity that went with being a “Stone” and that she embodied. She always lived in Texas, raising her boys in Bryan and also living in Austin and Houston for a while before retiring to Kerrville. I also admired her grit and determination. When she found herself divorced and needing to support herself in the 90’s, she leveraged a somewhat checkered background in insurance and real estate into a meaningful job with MCI, locating and leasing cell tower sites all over Texas. She was a strong supporter of women’s rights and very independent herself. In her later years she told amusing stories about her younger days, going to Estes Park in the summers with Aunt Tete and Uncle Doctor, visiting the riotous Boyle cousins of Boyle Hotel fame in Oklahoma City, or acting as the first secretary to the very young Republican party in the 50’s in Houston. She especially enjoyed telling stories about her adored big brother, my father, and how much my mother meant to him. She came to visit my mother in the hospital at the end and brought her peaches and strawberries and memories, and they laughed together like girls. I loved her for that."
"Marie was my dear friend, colleague, teacher and sometimes Mom. We made each other laugh and her enthusiasm never lacked. We met when she lived next door, and she brought my first legal client to me. The work for this microwave company was my first experience with the communications industry. Now almost 40 years later, I still practice communications law. Marie was always encouraging and convinced me "I could" rather than "I can't." She never lacked for a good story either. And she was so proud of her two sons.
[Paul, thank you for your message. I've tried calling the number you used many times, and it gives me a fast busy. Would be great to hear from you. markfoster@texas.edu or mfoster@fosterdanowsky.com."
