John F. Aceti went to the Lord after a long, full life. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia with a BS in Education. He earned a Master’s in Education from the University of Buffalo, Buffalo NY.
John served in the Air Force for 4 years and spent 3 years in Germany. While stationed there, he traveled to Italy several times to visit relatives.
He married Carol, the girl next door, in 1961. John taught school for 10 years in Niagara Falls. He moved to SUNY at Geneseo, NY with his wife and 4 children in 1972. He became a university professor in the lab school for 6 years. He also served on the Faculty Senate at the University.
The family moved to Olean, NY where he was an elementary principal until his retirement in 1992. He served as an educational consultant for business, industry and school districts in western NY and Pennsylvania. He taught graduate courses in School Administration as an adjunct professor at St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY. He also wrote educational articles for NY state educational journals and national administrative journals.
John and Carol moved to Kerrville in 1993 as Vista Volunteers. He was active as a Rotarian completing 50 years as a member. He was active at the Museum of Western Art as a docent and photographer. He was an active member of the photography club of Kerrville for many years. He served on the Board of Directors for Dietert Center.
John put his curiosity and photography skills to work telling the stories of the people of Texas in 7 books that he wrote.
One of his joys in life was joining his good friends fishing in Northern Canada. He enjoyed playing drums in small and large dance bands for 20 years during his college and teaching years in western New York.
John and Carol taught English as a second language in China, Poland and Italy. They traveled to many countries and attended Rotary Club meetings around the world. They even visited with a Rotary member who was living in Antarctica.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and 3 siblings. He is survived by his wife and children: Janet, her husband Kris; David and wife, Torey; Sharon, husband Craig, and Susan and his grandchildren Michael, Macy and Addison.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to the Rafael Free Clinic, the Rotary International Foundation to eliminate polio in the world or the charity of their choice.
A service in celebration of John’s life will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St., Kerrville on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 4 pm.
