On January 6, 2025, Robert John Henderson, a pillar of his community and a loving family patriarch, passed away after a brief illness. R.J.(Sonny) leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and adventure, inspiring generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Allie Beakley Henderson; daughter, Treva Henderson; great-grandson, Grit Smith; father and mother, William Irvin Henderson and Rose Ellen Merritt Henderson; grandfather and grandmother, John Levi Henderson and Mattie Lee Henderson; grandfather, Robert Merritt and grandmother, Susan New Merritt; beloved uncles, James Howard (Jack), Clyde, Jasper, Temple, Welton Henderson, Randolph and Lloyd Merritt; and aunts, Evedee Davis and Hattie Sagebeil, Lottie Conn, Amy Menges, Ettie Wedekind, and Virgie Bass.
His memory is cherished by his daughters, Tina Henderson Kahlig, husband Clarence Kahlig and Twila Henderson; brother, William Irvin (Buddy) Henderson and wife Gwen Henderson; grandchildren, Lyndsey (Koy) Smith, Justin McCelvey, Landon (Briana) McCelvey, Bryce Woolls, Brittany Woolls, Brianne (Travis) Waldrop, Tyler Fry, and Kylie Fry; great-grandchildren, Courtney Woolls and Colton Wakeley, Aiden, Rhody, Sonora, Walker, and Greeley Smith, Ryder, Logan and Molly McCelvey, Everly, Adalyn, and Hallie McCelvey.
He was many things in his life, rancher, real estate agent, horse breeder, beloved father, and grandfather and more. He enjoyed stock shows, rodeos, hunting, fishing, border collies, horses, music, dancing, but most of all family. We will all miss his humor and company but find comfort in knowing he is in heaven, and we will all be together again in eternity. May he rest in peace with our Lord.
Memorial services will be at 2 PM, Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Rev. Frankie Enloe.
