Maria Virgen Rodriguez, 95 years old, passed away on February 19th, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Sonora, Texas to Theodore Virgen and Natalia Gutierrez Virgen on July 10th, 1929. She married Matias Rodriguez (deceased) on December 31st, 1950, at Calvary Baptist Church in Kerrville.
She was a beloved preacher’s wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She helped with the first bilingual kindergarten classroom at Calvary Baptist Church in the 1960’s. She retired from KISD after 20 years of service. She was a volunteer at the VA hospital for several years and loved playing bingo. She loved God and served the Lord by bringing many people to Christ throughout her life. She will be missed dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Natalia Virgen; spouse, Matias Rodriguez; son, David Rodriguez; sisters, Christina Brown and Josephine Falcon; brothers, Theodore Virgen and Raymond Virgen.
She is survived by children, Priscilla Lozano, spouse Danny Lozano, and Lydia Rodriguez; brother, Armando Virgen; sister, Dora Granado; grandchildren, Sebrina Elliott, spouse Rodney Elliott, Ciera Rios, spouse Gerald Rios, Daniel Lozano, Andrew Lozano, spouse Evi Lozano and Sofia Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Cole Elliott, Gerald Jr. Rios, Zoe Rios, Antonio Rios, Justice Rios, Matias Rios, Tre Lozano, Landon Lozano, Eleyna Lozano and Ezra Lozano.
The memorial service will be at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Monday, February 24th at 6pm. The graveside service will be at Mountain View Cemetery at 11 am on Tuesday, February 25th.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pastor Nick Ramos and the congregation at Misson Route 66 Church and the volunteers at the VA hospital.
