Carroll Gene Smith, 89, of Kerrville, passed away on April 18, 2026, in his home in Kerrville. He was born in China Springs, Texas to Roger Bailey Smith and Clara Lavee Smith on June 24, 1936. He married Dorothy Nell Rose on April 8, 1960, in Pampa, Texas.

He went to school at Samnorwood High School in Shamrock, Texas. He was drafted into the Army but did not serve during wartime. After his time in the Army, he worked for Celanese Chemical Company for 30 years, retiring in 1994 to Kerrville, Texas.

Carroll was preceded in death by his son, Kirk W. Smith, who died in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his son, Kevin Smith, and Rebecca Smith; his sisters, Leta Wischkaemper, Sylvia Johnson and his brother, Douglass Smith; his grandsons, Austin and Mason Smith and their spouses Madison and Yuly Smith respectively; his great-granddaughter, Magnolia Smith; his sister-in-law, Patsy and her husband Gary Havenhill, as well as Maryln Rose. Carroll was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews which are too many in number to be named herein.

Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Rev. James Wilson.

Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations to be given to the following:

·       Kerrville VA CDCE – 3600 Memorial Blvd, Kerrville, Texas 78028.

·       Peterson Hospice – 250 Cully Dr, Kerrville, Texas 78028

The family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude and sincerest thanks to Carroll’s caregivers, Maria Charnichart, Connie Castillo, Brittney Hawkins, Julie Lopez, Michelle Singleton, Rosalie Salazar and Sara the Registered Nurse with Peterson Hospice.
