The family of John Albert Knight Jr. is deeply saddened to announce that he passed away at his home in Kerrville, TX on May 13, 2026. He was 83 years old. John was born in San Antonio, TX to John A. Knight Sr. and Hazel Gertrude Smith Knight on September 19, 1942.
John grew up in San Antonio Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1963, and then Baylor Medical School in 1967. In 1963, he married Mary Harrison of Odessa, TX and they had 3 daughters, Natasha, Jodie and Ginger.
In 1967, John completed an internship with the Public Health Service in Seattle, WA, and then became the General Medical Officer in Browning, MT at the Blackfoot Medical Hospital.
From 1973 – 1993, John worked for the Public Health Service at the Alaska Native Medical Center, where he obtained the rank of Captain. At the time of his retirement, it was written in a local newspaper that he had delivered more than 3000 babies during this time, but he was not finished yet. John moved to Abilene, TX in 1993 from Alaska.
In 1995, John graduated from Abilene Christian University with a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. There he met Marilyn McBroom and they were married in 1994. John and Marilyn then moved to Jackson, TN where he worked for the University of Tennessee Family Medicine Intern program training family medicine doctors in obstetrics. In 2001, John and Marilyn relocated to Kerrville, TX.
John worked 2 years in San Antonio for the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, training interns in obstetrics. Finally, in 2003 transitioned to his last practice at OB-GYN Association in Kerrville, where he continued to deliver babies until his 4th retirement in 2009.
John had a love for the great outdoors, for hunting, camping and fishing. He felt very at home spending time anywhere in God’s creation spending time in nature. He will be remembered as a kind, generous person with a quirky sense of humor that sometimes went over his family's head. His family remembers him as the lover of music, and someone who would burst into song. He especially loved singing while his teenage daughters were soundly sleeping. He was devoted to his wife, family and to God. In 2010, he became wheelchair bound. While this compromised his physical adventures, he continued to learn, study, explore, and tell dad jokes whenever possible.
John Albert Knight Jr. is survived by his wife, Marilyn McBroom Knight; his brother, Darrell Keith Knight; his daughters, Natasha Knight, Jodie Hicks, and Ginger Nalley; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at the Kerrville Church of Christ (1900 Loop 534) on Saturday, June 27th at 1 pm. Visiting and fellowship will be afterward in the building.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Doctors Without Borders, or the Christian Outreach to Northern Ghana (a ministry of Kerrville Church of Christ).
