Cayetano Albert Camus III, lovingly known to family and friends as "Al or Skeeter," passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 81 after a 5-year battle with MDS.
Born on April 12, 1945, in Wilmington, North Carolina to C.A. Camus Jr and Doris Camus. Cayetano moved with his family to Houston, Texas, in 1952, where he spent much of his life. From an early age, he discovered a deep love for music and found joy behind a drum set, a passion that remained with him throughout his life.
In 1964, Cayetano proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country for two and a half years. During his military service, he trained and worked as a medic, an experience that inspired his lifelong career in healthcare. After leaving the Navy, he became a respiratory therapist, dedicating more than 30 years to caring for others before retiring.
Following retirement, Cayetano settled in Kerrville, Texas, where he owned property that became one of his greatest treasures. There, he embraced a new passion for building and craftsmanship, constructing a unique yurt on his land. He found peace and happiness surrounded by nature, caring for the deer that wandered through his property, raising guineas, and enjoying the companionship of his beloved cats and faithful German Weimaraner, Charlie.
Cayetano will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of music, his dedication to helping others, and his deep appreciation for the simple beauty of life. He cherished time spent with family and friends and built lasting relationships with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Henning and her husband, Scott; and his cherished grandchildren, Aubree and Kolbe. He is also survived by his sister, Marie McGee; his nephew, Edwin McGee III; his niece, Jill Howells; and many extended family members.
Cayetano is lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Shelley Rubin, and the Lavender family—Neal, Tracy, Christopher, Dylan, Evelyn, Katlyn, and Ben—who held a special place in his heart. He was also a beloved part of the Massey and Ueckert families, including family of Schel Kuehnert, Brayden, Corynn, Arden, and Haven.
His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, his service, his friendship, and his unwavering love for family, nature, and music.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Trey and Vanessa Caulkin, and Alex and Raquel Constantine for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Al when family could not always be there. Your dedication and compassion meant more than words can express.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. A. Singh and the staff at Texas Oncology for their tireless efforts and commitment to finding treatments that would help Al throughout his journey.
The family would also like to thank the infusion team at Peterson Health for their compassionate care, professionalism, and kindness during his treatments.
The family is deeply grateful to River Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center and Embrace Hospice for the comfort, dignity, and compassionate care they provided during Al's final days.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Burial will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio at a later date.
