John Krieg, 88, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully the morning of July 16, 2026.
John was born in Thrall, Texas, on May 22, 1938, to John and Emma Senkel Krieg, the youngest of five children. A proud graduate of Thrall High School, John went on to attend The University of Texas, where he earned a degree in mathematics. His long career as a computer software programmer also included owning his own computer store in Austin, Texas.
On June 18, 1960, John married the love of his life, Carolyn Krieg. They welcomed two children, James and Laura. John and Carolyn shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling to places like Mexico for family vacations, as well as spending time on their boat dock playing dominoes.
He found great joy in spending time with family and friends. Whether playing weekly games of canasta with friends at the Golden Hub or attending Texas Rangers games alongside his son and granddaughters, John treasured the relationships he built throughout his life. He was also an excellent cook, and no family gathering felt complete without one of his famous pecan pies, which became a favorite tradition for those lucky enough to enjoy them.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Krieg; his brother, Charles; his sisters, Margaret, Viola, and Irene; and his son-in-law, Richard Stebe.
He is survived by his son, James Krieg and wife Leslie; his daughter, Laura Stebe; his grandchildren, Kirsten Krieg and husband Daniel, Ashlyn Krieg, Lane Wallendorf and wife Laura, and Jenna Wallendorf; his great-grandson, George Schneider; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and steadfast devotion to his family and friends. Though he will be greatly missed, the memories he created and the values he instilled will remain with those who loved him forever.
