Suzanne Faught, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 23. She was born in Crockett, Texas, on May 15, 1939, to Albert and Grace (Curry) Hayhurst.
Suzanne was raised in Pasadena, Texas, and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957. She maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates, attending class reunions and traveling together over the years. She was a dancer who taught ballet, tap, and jazz at the Eleanor Eason School of Dance in Houston while in high school.
Suzanne received a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University. She worked as a social worker in the Houston area and later received a teaching certificate from the University of Houston.
She married Bill Faught on June 12, 1972. When they married, Suzanne gained not only a husband but also his three children, Billy, Brenda, and Becky. She loved them as her own, and a few years later, their daughter, Shellie, was born.
At the time of their marriage, Suzanne was a middle school math teacher. In 1978, Bill’s company transferred him to El Paso. They quickly fell in love with the area, so they eventually bought the firm and founded Faught & Associates. Suzanne and Bill worked together to grow a successful business until their retirement in 1998.
While living in El Paso, Suzanne was active in their church and in Shellie’s schools. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was recognized as an Outstanding Girl Scout Volunteer by the Rio Grande Council. Suzanne also cared deeply for animals and rescued feral cats by trapping, neutering, and releasing them.
In 2000, Suzanne and Bill moved to Kerrville to be closer to their aging parents. Suzanne found joy in hosting holidays for friends and family, traveling, and growing a wide variety of plants and flowers.
Suzanne and Bill were active in the Methodist Church throughout their marriage and were charter members of Kerrville Global Methodist Church. They later attended Center Point Methodist Church as Suzanne was able. She had a charitable and giving spirit and generously helped her friends, family, church, and other organizations whenever she saw a need.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Billy Faught and wife Dee of Weatherford, Brenda Faught of Kerrville, Becky Powers and husband Ron of Kerrville, and Shellie Faught and husband John Burgess of Austin; her grandchildren, Amy Batterson of Houston, Damon Faught and wife Beth of Weatherford, Courtney Beloin and husband Shawn of Houston, and Lindsey Sauceda and husband Kyle of Blanco; and nine great-grandchildren: Savannah, Jessica (Vicente), Hayden, Bryson, Hadley, Abbie, Caroline, Lucy, and Emmy. She is also survived by loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In a final act of generosity, Suzanne chose to donate her body to UT Health San Antonio.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, at First Baptist Church, 625 Washington St., Kerrville, with Pastor Joey Tombrella officiating.
