The smile and laughter of Gilbert will be missed, and his beautiful spirit and the joyful memories he created will continue to inspire us every day.
Born on March 19, 1955, in Bastrop, Texas, Gilbert grew up with deep pride in his roots there and in Kerrville, Texas. He dedicated over 30 years of loyal service to the Kerrville State Hospital and, in addition, truly enjoyed his additional work providing in-home supportive services.
When you think of Gilbert and his many talents, you immediately think of his cooking and the magic dishes he could churn out. Gilbert’s signature dishes are legendary, including his rich, savory cornbread dressing and decadent desserts. He was honored to bring joy to others with his dishes and always desired to improve and learn from others to enhance his cooking skills. He also enjoyed driving whether it was part of his work and volunteer duties or being requested by family and friends to drive to various needed appointments. There are so many fun memories shared of Gilbert's rides from around town to vacation trips that may include a stop by a new car dealership, a popular shopping center, or a new home open house.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, George Allen Dimery Jr. and Geneva Mae Dimery, paternal grandparents George Dimery Sr. and Rosie Shields Dimery, maternal grandparents William Barnett Sr. and Cedella Owens Barnett, sisters Georgie Gail Dimery and Sheilah Louise Dimery, brothers Guy William Dimery, Leonard M. Dimery and Charles Ray Dimery.
He is survived by a sister Jackie Geneice Dimery, brothers Kirk William Dimery and Gregory Wayne Barnett, nieces and nephews, among whom are Ebony Renee Carr, Jazmine Gail Dimery, and Jason Allen Dimery-Williams, great and grand nieces and nephews, along with a host of relatives and friends.
In the gentle words of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want...”
